Adherents of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 religion are painfully familiar with the great hosting schism of the last century. The argument over who was the better host, Joel or Mike, is a thing of the past — and thanks to new advances in technology, even more irrelevant today. Joel now mocks terrible movies with various former Misties under the Cinematic Titanic brand, and Mike Nelson (and various former Misties) does his lampooning under the RiffTrax name. And yes, both groups are worth checking out. How 'bout you sample the wares of Nelson and Co. tonight at 7 p.m. with the nationwide broadcast of RiffTrax LIVE: Plan 9 From Outer Space. Ed Wood's horribly inept science-fiction feature gets raked over the coals by Nelson, Bill Corbett (Crow T. Robot, seasons eight through ten) and Kevin Murphy (Tom Servo, seasons two through ten) live from some theater in Nashville, and you can witness the high jinks at the AMC Esquire (6706 Clayton Road, Richmond Heights; 314-542-4262 or www.fathomevents.com) in a glorious HD simulcast. Plan 9 From Outer Space in HD? It's like eating gourmet ramen. Tickets for the riffery are $12.50.
