All Hits, No Filler

For the next two weekends, Soundstage Productions presents William Shakespeare's Greatest Hits, a stockpot-like assemblage of all of the best parts of ol' Billy's works. Now, we know that sometimes theater newbies shy away from the Bard's plays, thinking they'll be too stiff or complicated or the language too difficult to understand. Not so with this production. Neophytes should embrace this introduction to more than twenty Shakespearean works and think of it not as an abridged CliffsNotes-style performance, but more as a really bitchin' Time Life soft-rock CD set. And who doesn't like those? With that attitude you'll ease into Shakespeare like you would a warm bath: nice and easy (like a Sunday morning). Soundstage Productions is a reader's theater, meaning that the theater group highlights the written word; for this show violin music adds a little something-something. William Shakespeare's Greatest Hits is presented at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday (September 11 through 20) at the ArtSpace at Crestwood Court (Watson and Sappington roads). Tickets cost $8. Learn more at www.soundstageproductions.net.
Fridays-Sundays. Starts: Sept. 11. Continues through Sept. 20, 2009
