THE FINAL THREE PERFORMANCES OF LOVE KILLS HAVE BEEN CANCELED DUE TO A PERSONAL LOSS IN THE COMPANY. With every episode of Forensic Files and ripped-from-the-headlines Law & Order, we are reminded about the heinousness of crime — while being enthralled by it all the same. We don't know what it is about true crime that makes for such interesting viewing. Maybe it empowers us to know what depravity is out there in the world, giving us a sense of preparedness in case we ever encounter such horrors, or perhaps it's sympathy for the victims that keeps us tuning in. But most likely, we're watching to glean an answer to the big question: Why? Take the case of Charles Starkweather and Caril Fugate. In the late 1950s, these young lovers killed eleven people in Nebraska and Wyoming — you might be familiar with their spree via Natural Born Killers. The precise "why" of these tragedies won't ever be known, but Kyle Jarrow offers a current take on the murdering pair and their relationship with his rock musical Love Kills. This play, set in jail after the two were caught, opens New Line Theatre's season on Thursday, October 1, and continues with performances Thursday through Saturday until October 24. Tickets cost $10 to $20 (at 314-534-1111 or www.metrotix.com), and all shows are held at 8 p.m. at the Washington University South Campus Theatre (6501 Clayton Road, Richmond Heights).
Thursdays-Saturdays. Starts: Oct. 1. Continues through Oct. 24, 2009
