New York. Paris. Milan. As fashion capitals, sure, they're nice and all, but aren't they also just a little, oh, expected? Not to mention far away. And while St. Louis might not be regarded as a fashion mecca — not yet, anyway — maybe that will change, at least for one week. Thanks to Saint Louis Fashion Week, the city can show off its style know-how. Runway events include everything from international collections to local talent, such as the Bakers Project: Design! show tonight at 7 p.m. at Lumière Place (999 North Second Street; 314-881-7777). Tickets are $25 to $125. Host Jillian Lewis (of Project Runway fame) heads a panel of judges who will select a $30,000 grand-prize winner from six finalists. The show also includes the latest collection from Lewis' own line. Fashion Week continues with daily events through Sunday, October 18, all at Lumière Place. There are a number of events sure to satisfy your inner Anna Wintour, including a Designer & Handmade Market sponsored by STL Craft Mafia on Friday and Saturday (October 16 and 17).
