If we may tweak a well-known phrase, lovers of St. Louis-made brew can have their beer and read it too. A new book called St. Louis Brews: 200 Years of Brewing in St. Louis, 1809-2009, by Henry Herbst, Don Roussin and Kevin Kious, details the shifting fortunes of our town's many, many breweries. Highlighting the countless forgotten outfits of yesteryear to, um, not-quite-forgotten concerns such as Anheuser-Busch InBev, St. Louis Brews should slake your thirst for the in-depth brewski knowledge. Want to meet the authors, chat about their book and maybe invite them out for a pitcher of the good stuff? Be at the St. Louis Public Library Schlafly branch (225 North Euclid Avenue; 314-367-4120 or www.slpl.org) tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. for a free discussion of the book.
