Change Is Gonna Come

Mention "the Heights" to a New Yorker from Brooklyn and she'll think, "Yes: beautiful Brooklyn Heights." Over in Manhattan, the same term would more likely conjure Washington Heights, in the far north of that borough. At the Fox Theatre (527 North Grand Boulevard), In the Heights signifies the latter neighborhood. Lin-Manuel Miranda's hit musical In the Heights, winner of four Tony awards, celebrates the importance of family ties in the close-knit Dominican American neighborhood — but some of the knitting is slipping. As the younger generation dreams of going off to school or moving back to the Dominican Republic, the older generation wonders what will happen to their Heights if no one remains to appreciate what they've built. In the Heights captures a neighborhood on the brink of change, where dreams and traditions collide. The music, a blend of salsa, hip-hop and soul music, reflects three generations of the American immigrant experience. In the Heights is performed Tuesday through Sunday (November 10 through 22), and tickets are $26 to $68. Visit www.fabulousfox.com or call 314-534-1111 for details.
Mondays-Sundays. Starts: Nov. 11. Continues through Nov. 22, 2009
