The Seedy Seeds

10 p.m. Saturday, November 14. Antarctica, 5226 Gravois Avenue.

What happens when an aging pop-punker trades in his half-stack for a banjo and a drum machine? Well, if you're Mike Ingram from mid-'90s Cincinnati pop-punk stalwarts the Scrubs, what results is the Seedy Seeds, a drum-machine-pop-meets-Americana band. But besides the change in instrumentation, these tunes aren't that far removed from the pop-hook-laden punk that Ingram made with his former bands. "Winter 04" solders forward on a hypnotic drum machine pulse as down-home, boy/girl unison vocals and well-placed harmonies float above acoustic guitar strums and banjo plucking. The mix seems unlikely, but strong, catchy choruses and smart storytelling always bring the band's songs back to familiar sonic territory.
