Mary Little Christmas

While visions of sugarplums and credit-card bills may dance in our heads at the onset of the holiday season, Jeanne Johnston is re-envisioning children's literature as works of art. That dream keeps growing — into a free, community-supported museum occupying 15,000 square feet in the ArtSpace at Crestwood Court (Watson and Sappington roads, Crestwood; 314-941-2097 or www.stlciam.org), and a partnership with Mary Engelbreit. On Friday, November 27, the Johnston family celebrates the grand opening of the St. Louis Children's Illustrated Art Museum, featuring a forested winter wonderland walk-through exhibit of Engelbreit's illustrated The Night Before Christmas. The exhibit remains up through early January 2010, and the museum is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. A Mary Engelbreit holiday store will be in the museum for the duration. Visit www.stlciam.org for more information on the whimsical multimedia space that goes well beyond cutesy.
Fri., Nov. 27; Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays. Starts: Nov. 27. Continues through Dec. 31, 2009
