Like Jell-O on Springs

Jack Lemmon shredding on standup bass. A gangland massacre in a garage. Jack Lemmon in a flapper dress. Tony Curtis in a flapper dress. Marilyn Monroe "Running Wild" with a ukulele. Marilyn Monroe in her pajamas. Tony Curtis in a ridiculous yachtsman's cap and cravat, doing an awful Cary Grant impression. "Well, nobody's perfect." But Billy Wilder's Some Like It Hot very nearly is, all the more so in a new 35 mm print commissioned for the movie's 50th anniversary. And best of all, it has nothing to do with Christmas, instead being the adventures of two musicians (Lemmon and Curtis) who witness a mob murder and go on the lam disguised as members of a touring band — an all-female band, which prominently features Ms. Monroe. See it again (or for the first time) as part of the Webster University Film Series at 7:30 p.m. Friday through Wednesday (December 18 through 23) at Webster University's Moore Auditorium (470 East Lockwood Avenue; 314-968-7487 or www.webster.edu/filmseries). Tickets are $5 to $6.
Dec. 18-23, 2009
