The Joy of Free

The recession may or may not be over — it depends largely on whom you ask, and how much bailout money that person has received. For those who still worry about their own budgets (everybody?) groups such as BandTogether, St. Louis's GLBTA community concert band, are a must-see this winter. JOY, the group's annual holiday concert, focuses on uplifting music, and includes John Williams' "Sound the Bells," a trumpet-and-trombone duet version of "Baby, It's Cold Outside" and Beethoven's Ode to Joy as the finale. Admission is free (but donations are graciously appreciated), so this is a fantastic affordable night out for everybody. The show starts at 8 p.m. at the 560 Music Center (560 Trinity Avenue, University City; 314-968-2939 or www.bandtogetherstl.com).
