Electric Six knows the Number of the Beast: In six years, the Detroit sextet has released six full-length albums. With each, the band has descended further into the satanic pit wherein the genres of new wave, disco and monster rock are giddily tortured by demons wielding (and wanking) metal guitar and sleazy synths. In 2003, the single "Danger! High Voltage" burned up the UK charts with a walloping club groove and backing vocals rumored to be by Jack White. E6's latest release, 2009's Kill, sounds a bit trapped in an unholy marriage of cock rock and electro. Still, tracks such as "Egyptian Cowboy" and "One Sick Puppy," an anti-Christian smackdown, punctuate their somewhat scattershot satires with inexorable thump and apocalyptic guitar.
