On Saturday, the close-knit local underground punk/hardcore scene is throwing a benefit to honor two of their biggest supporters: Brad Cassidy and Nick Mardanes. The former, an ardent music fan, played in bands such as Very Metal, Eating Rats and The Saw Is Family and passed away last year, while the latter man (who Cardiac Arrest singer/songwriter Rob Ruzicka says "sometimes opted to buy records instead of eating") is currently battling cancer in New York City. Bands scheduled to play the benefit include Kids on Fire, Civic Progress, Cross Examination, God Fodder and Furio, which will be playing unreleased Cassidy songs. DJs, raffles and free pizza are also on tap for the event.
