As far as storied recording studios go, Ardent Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, competes with the best. As the home base for local heroes (Big Star, Booker T. & the MG's) and a recording destination for international stars (Led Zeppelin, R.E.M.), Ardent has seen its share of legendary acts. The Memphis trio Star & Micey isn't quite part of the city's gritty soul tradition, but the band records its sweetly melodic, heart-on-sleeve pop songs at the studio and releases albums on its label, Ardent Records. Star & Micey's self-titled debut features guest spots by Big Star drummer Jody Stephens and the North Mississippi Allstars guitar hero Luther Dickinson, but the session men don't draw attention away from leader Joshua Cosby's blue-eyed soul and acoustic folk-pop.

Great Write up! One not though, Star & Micey are on Ardent Music - not Ardent Records.
