Marty Casey took second place behind J.D. Fortune in the first season of Rockstar:INXS and lost out on a chance to be the Australian band's new lead singer. But Casey and his Chicago band Lovehammers were immediately offered an opening slot on INXS' U.S. tour and garnered their own major-label recording contract soon thereafter, proving that American Idol isn't the only contest where the runner-up often fares better than the champ. Lovehammers, which formed way back in the late '80s and started releasing albums independently in the late '90s, has capitalized on Casey's success. Its small but extremely loyal fan base feeds off of Casey's rock-star panache, endless charisma and the no-frills, guitar-driven rock.
