Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin

9 p.m. Wednesday, January 27. The Billiken Club, in the Busch Student Center on the campus of Saint Louis University, 20 North Grand Boulevard.

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin first showed up on the indie-buzz radar back in 2005, when it released its first self-produced, self-recorded effort, Broom. The album's whimsical pop purity and smartly constructed songs won over critics and generated even more anticipation for the Springfield, Missouri, quartet's second album, 2008's Pershing. But hopes have never been higher for the band than they are right now, as SSLYBY prepares for the release of its third studio album later this year. The choice to hand over the reins to producer Chris Walla for recording last fall (at the soon-to-close Smart Studios in Madison, Wisconsin) hopefully led the band into interesting (and uncharted) sonic territory. "Cardinal Rules," an ode to Springfield's double-A minor-league team found on the band's MySpace page, alludes to a bigger, bombastic production vibe — while retaining SSLYBY's sugary sweetness and good vibes.
