Ear’s to You, Vincent

Vincent Van Gogh’s artistic career lasted a brief nine years and in his lifetime he sold only one canvas. And yet in those nine years he managed to create more than 900 paintings – many of them now the most recognized artworks on the planet. From Starry Night to Sunflowers to Café Terrace at Night, Van Gogh’s paintings continue to inspire and transport their audience. And now you can be transported in a whole new way, thanks to Van Gogh: Brush with Genius. The film takes you through Vincent’s life from the Netherlands to Auvers-sur-Oise and Arles, Saint-Remy to Paris in his point-of-view via his personal letters. From the time he picked up his first brush at age 27 to his infamous ear-cutting, the OMNIMAX is a fitting vehicle for someone whose personal history seems so larger-than-life. The film screens daily through Thursday, January 14, at the Saint Louis Science Center OMNIMAX Theater (5050 Oakland Avenue; 314-289-4400 or www.slsc.org). Tickets are $7 to $8.
