Kenny Rogers

7 p.m. Thursday, February 11. The Family Arena, 2002 Arena Parkway, St. Charles.

When you hear the name "Kenny Rogers," what comes to mind? A rotisserie-chicken franchise? A website dedicated to men with white hair and beards? One of the American League's most dominating pitchers of the '90s and '00s? (Granted, that's a different Kenny Rogers.) It's strange to think of Kenny Rogers as an active, touring musician, but that's exactly what he is. After a brief stint in psych-rock band the First Edition (the group that gave the world the brilliant "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)," made famous by The Big Lebowski), Rogers embarked on a solo career in 1976 and hasn't stopped since. More than 30 years and 25 studio albums later, Rogers is still going strong. To put that into perspective, that's almost eight times as long a career as Vampire Weekend's had thus far. And they don't even have a fast-food chain named after them.
