World of Fun (and Learning)

Confession time: Ms. Day is not as well traveled as you might have thought. Sure, she's spent some time in Mexico and a few months in Europe, but she's not the cosmopolitan globe-hopper you were undoubtedly picturing, with a trunk full of the world's wares and a passport full of stamps. She does like to spend a fair amount of time in our fair city eating like an explorer, trying cuisines from this corner and that, and generally being quite adventurous, especially when it comes to the world's pocket foods (you know, every culture has at least one). She's hoping to tuck into a few of these pillowy delights at Celebrate the World: An International Festival, held from noon to 5 p.m. at the Maryland Heights Centre (2344 McKelvey Road; 314-738-2599 or www.marylandheights.com). This year, the free fest focuses on Turkey (and its baklava!), while still serving up music and dance performances, a market full of jewelry and artwork, and, yes, eats, from countries all around the globe — no passport required.
