More About

Q and Not U's detractors quickly wrote the band off as Fugazi clones after the release of 2000's No Kill No Beep Beep. These days, though, the band looks like the Genesis of the Washington, D.C., post-punk scene: It changed lineups, became uncompromisingly accessible and polarized its diehards with 2004's dangerously eclectic Power. Five years after the band's demise, drummer John Davis has embraced his inner Phil Collins with a new solo project, Title Tracks. Davis eschews his former band's political angst in favor of mid-tempos, major keys, shimmering Stratocasters and spontaneous leaps into falsetto territory (a favorite move of fellow D.C. transplant Ted Leo). With Title Tracks, Davis joins the ranks of sunnier brethren such as the Evens and Edie Sedgwick, all of whom have transcended the, er, notorious discord of Dischord Records.
