Watch enough late-night television, and you're bound to see infomercials for various CD collections showcasing the soul hits of the '70s. Oddly enough, watching clips from the heyday of refined, sensual R&B makes for an engrossing half-hour of TV viewing. Several of the genre's all-stars will come together in St. Louis for the '70s Soul Jam, a revue that touches on Quiet Storm slow jams, Philly Soul elegance and well-tailored funk. Led by the baby-faced, high-voiced Russell Thompkins Jr., the Stylistics racked up several hits ("Betcha By Golly, Wow" and "You Are Everything") thanks to the songwriting genius of producer Thom Bell. The three ladies in the Emotions didn't do much besides the bubbly, irrepressible "Best of My Love," but the song is so perfect that they didn't need to. The Main Ingredient ("Everybody Plays the Fool"), New Birth ("Wildflower"), and Ray, Goodman and Brown ("Love on a Two-Way Street") will also perform.
