Young at Heart

Neil Young is the shining example of doing what you love. Whether he's playing his pastoral acoustic songs, knocking the fungus off your feet with soul-enriching feedback jams or denying your expectations of what the artist should be doing with his electronic excursions, Neil Young only ever answers to Neil Young. That's a good way to live a life. Jonathan Demme presents a portrait of the artist exactly as he is in the new documentary Neil Young Trunk Show. Shot digitally and in glorious Super 8 (thereby visually representing the gold and grit of any Neil Young song), Neil Young Trunk Show features live footage of the 2007 Chrome Dreams II tour as well as a few backstage scenes. Expect no grand explanations of purpose or reason other than this: Neil Young exists, and as long as he does, he'll play the music he hears in his heart. The Webster Film Series screens Neil Young Trunk Show at 7:30 p.m. in room 123 of Sverdrup Hall (8300 Big Bend Boulevard) and also at 10 p.m. in Moore Auditorium (470 East Lockwood Avenue; 314-968-7487 or www.webster.edu/filmseries) Friday and Saturday (April 2 and 3), and at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 4, in Moore Auditorium. Admission is $5 to $6.
