Nobody's home: Readers think Kinloch is worth saving, but not the home of Cookie Thornton's family in Meacham Park

PETER "PANDER" KINDER
Political suicide to align with Tea Party: Wow, Kinder thinks the best strategy to run for governor is to pander to the Tea Party ["Peter Kinder Grandstands on Health Care, Joins Lawsuit to Stop Reform," Chad Garrison]? He can kiss his political career goodbye! Also, I'll put $20 on Adam Sharp showing up at the People's Settlement "disguised" as a hippie.

TRASHING KINLOCH
Blames McKee: Paul McKee can suck my left tit ["A Video Tour of Kinloch, the Saddest City in St. Louis County," Keegan Hamilton]. Trashing a community like that. It's mind-boggling to me for a developer to dump millions into a development like NorthPark and have no intent to clean up the area around. But I guess when it's not your own money you're spending, it's a different story.

There are no homes in Kinloch because of the "airport expansion," which is the same case in Carrollton and Bridgeton. But why does Carrollton get mowed and taken care of, for the most part, and Kinloch is just a dumping ground for tires and trash?

COVERAGE KICKS BUTT
Winkelmann bound to be a household name: Hilarious ["A Heated Deposition Turns the South Butt Case into One Giant 'Clusterf@#k,'" Nicholas Phillips]. South Butt has to be loving the coverage it's getting here. Sounds like Jimmy Winkelmann might be doing all this to generate more publicity — and it's working! If the North Face really wants this to go away, they would pack their bags and get the fuck out of St. Louis. Otherwise, national news reporters are going to start reporting this more often and this kid's going to start raking it in!

REVISIONIST HISTORY
Newspapers were no better back in the day:Let me make two points ["Was Joseph Pulitzer Gay? And Other Questions Prompted by New Biography," Chad Garrison].

1. I'm aghast at Mr. Three Names [author James McGrath Morris] and folks like him pretending that all was so very good in the golden-oldie days.

2. Have you actually read a Post-Dispatch or any newspaper from that supposed golden era, say, the 1940s thorough 1960s? Try it. It's a tough slog. I bet you come to the opinion that things are just different today, not worse.

WHEN THE COOKIE CRUMBLES
Think about the people Thornton murdered: Are you freaking kidding me ["Family of Charles 'Cookie' Thornton Evicted from Home in Meacham Park," Chad Garrison]? You write: "Thornton's mother and siblings are perhaps the greatest victims of his senseless violence." You must have somehow forgotten that he murdered six people! His family lost their home and an obviously deranged family member by his own doing. That's rough, but six other people lost their lives.

Compassion deficit: Chad, I agree wholeheartedly. Thank you for being someone to suggest that people can and should be helped, no matter what a family member might have done. What a missed opportunity for some real humanity in Kirkwood.
Michael Cornish, via the Internet

Cookie's family not the real victims: Meacham Park used to be a cesspool. It is where white kids from west county would go to buy drugs. When first responders would enter the neighborhood to save lives and houses, they would be greeted with violence. It is no shock that a resident of that neighborhood went as far as he did. As far as Cookie's family being the biggest victims here:Was their family the victim of a piece-of-shit crazed gunman? Nope, didn't think so.

BEWARE OF GOP MEN
Get lost, Dempsey: What an asshole. I know that by virtue of being male I am exempt from having any opinion regarding abortion. Alas, it's self-righteous cretins like Tom Dempsey who compel me to hold up the right to an abortion without apology. Just to spite their agenda. I hope Joan Bray puts the kibosh on this, and quick.
