EMERGO ATTACKS!

Back in the 1950s, filmmakers and distributors hatched any number of bizarre schemes to make their horror movies more scarifying. Nurses in the lobby to aid the heart attack victims, hearses parked out front, etc., etc. William Castle trumped them all for pure Scooby-Doo zaniness when he created Emergo, which was the name of the life-size skeleton that swooped over the heads of a terrified audience during appropriate moments of Castle's House on Haunted Hill. Honestly, it's more fun than another Hostel sequel. Tonight, sometime between 8 p.m. and midnight, Emergo will rear his bony head once again during Super-8 Movie Madness in 3-D at the Way Out Club (2525 South Jefferson Avenue). Super-8 founder Thomas Stockman does not have a copy of House on Haunted Hill, but he does have 3-D versions of It Came from Outer Space and The Creature From the Black Lagoon, and it's not like Emergo can tell the difference between the films any way -- or can he? Expect to be amazed by a skeleton on a guide wire several times during the evening while enjoying the best moments of Dracula (Bela Lugosi edition), West World and The Screaming Skull, all for a mere $3.
