"Pecha kucha" is the Japanese onomatopoeic term for "chitchat." A Pecha Kucha Night is a celebration of brief conversations about something near and dear to a lecturer's heart, usually in the field of art, design or entrepreneurship. The speaker creates a Power Point presentation on said dear topic, with the important caveat that they're allowed only twenty single images, and each image is allowed to screen for only twenty seconds. The limitations enforce a poetic conciseness on the speaker, and negate any possibility of long, rambling discourse. Pecha Kucha Night St. Louis, Volume 3 features presentations from Andrew Raimist on the topic of architect Isamu Noguchi's connection to St. Louis, visual artist Gina T. Alvarez, sound sorcerer Eric Hall and Jay Swoboda, one of the partners in the new business accelerator Sprout. Pecha Kucha Night is free, and takes place from 7 to 10 p.m. at Mad Art Gallery (2727 South 12th Street; 314-771-8230 or www.madart.com).
