A Hero Named Hero

Fans of anachronistic text-based adventure games such as the King's Quest series will find Hero's plight eerily familiar. Pledged to rescue the Mayor's Daughter from the evil Octopus Cult and it's leader, Evilicus, Hero rambles through a garishly-colored (and strangely flat) countryside gathering an infinite supply of seemingly useless items such as dead fish. But each of these objects is vital to Hero's success, right? Saving the Mayor's Daughter is important, isn't it? Hero's mission leads him to doubt not only himself, but the very meaning of life, the universe and everything in it. Richard Lovejoy's Adventurer's Quest is a dark trip into the psyche of a man on a mission who eventually realizes the mission makes little sense. NonProphet Theatre Company kicks off its new season with the 8-bit anomie of Adventurer's Quest at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday (May 29 to June 6) at the Regional Arts Commission (6128 Delmar Boulevard; 636-236-4831 or www.nptco.org).
