Stoner comedies may not get much love from cinephiles or the list-makers at the American Film Institute, but cottonmouth classics like Half Baked and Friday show the lighter side of recreational drug use. Up in Smoke, the 1978 buddy comedy starring Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong, is the granddaddy of all the cannabis classics. Featuring guest turns from Tom Skerritt and Stacy Keach, a deportation to Tijuana and a van made entirely of weed (talk about a green car, eh?), the film was the beginning of the Cheech & Chong film dynasty. Up in Smoke screens at 8 p.m. this evening at the Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue, Maplewood; 314-968-7487 or www.webster.edu/filmseries) as part of the Webster Film Series' Strange Brew programming. Admission is $4.
