Chocolate Gumbo

Tonight, basket some snacks and lug along a lawn chair to the Laumeier Sculpture Park's outdoor music amphitheater (12580 Rott Road, Sunset Hills; www.laumeier.org) for the first installment in this summer's Surreal Suburbs Music and Movie series. At 7 p.m. St. Louis' own Big Easy band Gumbohead takes the stage and promises to deliver attendees a "full-blown bead-tossing throwdown." Once Gumbohead has insured that all booties have been sufficiently shaken, plan to plant your posterior before the big screen to enjoy 2005's box-office blockbuster Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Tim Burton's adaptation of Roald Dahl's 1964 book is a darker shade of chocolate than Gene Wilder's 1971 recipe, with Depp in full-on oddball mode as the Howard Hughes-esque recluse Willy Wonka. The series is free, and concessions will be available for purchase.
