Radio station-sponsored festivals typically tend to be of the slightly schizophrenic variety. After all, at what other type of event would you expect to see both Papa Roach and Coheed and Cambria? But one of Pointfest's biggest sore thumbs this year is also the bill's brightest diamond: Motion City Soundtrack. Formed more than a decade ago, the Minneapolis band didn't get its musical bearings until 2003 when it released its debut album, I Am the Movie. The collection had creative music and packaging; early copies came inside five-and-one-quarter-inch floppy disk sleeves. The keyboard-driven pop-rock quintet was quickly picked up by indie powerhouse Epitaph, which helped the band sell more than half a million records over a span of six years. Team MCS partnered with major label Columbia Records for the release of My Dinosaur Life, its fourth and best album, this past January.
