More About

After taking 2009 off, the cowboys and cowgirls of the Gateway Gay Rodeo Association are back in the saddle again. This year's ropin', ridin' and dandyin' takes place Saturday and Sunday (June 12 through 13) at Mark Harrell Horse Facilities (12 Tucker Drive, Caseyville, Illinois; 314-795-7744 or www.gwgra.com). All your favorite traditional rodeo events — steer riding, barrel racing, break-away roping — are on the schedule, as are a few unique to gay rodeos, such as goat dressing (two-person teams must catch a goat, then get a pair of tighty-whities on it; best time wins) and the wild drag race (a complex and hilarious race involving a man, a woman, a person in drag and a steer on 25-foot lead; it makes more sense when you see it). Admission is $15 per day or $25 for a weekend pass.
Sat., June 12; Sun., June 13, 2010
