Their Town Is Our Town

Stray Dog Theatre promises a "fresh take" on Our Town when the company presents Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer Prize-winning work. You know the story: Emily and George and their families live in Grover's Corners, a small American town in New England, and their childhood lives are pretty unspectacular, really. Seeing as how these two have the opportunity to run into each other perhaps more often than they would in a larger city (St. Louis excluded — everyone runs into each other all of the time here), these two wind up wedding and sharing their lives together. But the story, which is told by the Stage Manager, doesn't end there, and let us remind you that the drama isn't all sunshine and flowers. Wilder explores universal themes with this work: appreciating what you have and general lessons about life and death. Experience Stray Dog's presentation of this classic at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday (June 10 through 26), with a bonus 2 p.m. matinee on that final Saturday, at Tower Grove Abbey (2336 Tennessee Avenue; www.straydogtheatre.org). Tickets cost $18 to $20; call 314-865-1995 to make a purchase.
Thursdays-Saturdays. Starts: June 10. Continues through June 26, 2010
