Starting a band in an attempt to meet girls is not exactly a novel idea. However, Passion Pit's Michael Angelakos put a precious, indie-rock tinge on that concept: The first four tracks of the band's debut EP, Chunk of Change, were originally a gift to his girlfriend. (They've since broken up.) This fact adds charm to Passion Pit's earnest lyrics, although the upbeat electro-pop quintet possesses plenty of charisma: Manners, the group's debut full-length, mingles happy, spacey beats and lots of clapping with Angelakos' wailing, somewhat effeminate vocals. The result is accessible, positive, buoyant pop that's hard not to love. The recently released "enhanced" version of Manners includes the original album, plus stripped- and slowed-down versions of two tracks and a cover of the Cranberries' "Dreams," complete with a homage to the original's harmonized howling. (In this version, however, it resembles meowing.) Tokyo Police Club and Brahms will also perform.
