More About

New Orleans has long been known as a breeding ground for musical eccentrics; natives include Professor Longhair and Dr. John. However, St. Louisans can be proud that Crescent City madman Quintron spent his formative years right here. Born Robert Rolston, the one-man band creates lo-fi swamp-funk with little more than a wheezy transistor organ and his patented light-activated drum machine, the Drum Buddy. (Other lucky Drum Buddy owners include Laurie Anderson and Wilco's Glenn Kotche.) Along with his wife, the puppeteer, percussionist and backup singer known as Miss Pussycat, Quintron takes soulful garage rock somewhere weird, wild and wonderful. The pair recently wrapped up a three-month residency at the New Orleans Museum of Art, where visitors could watch Mr. Q record his new album from behind glass. His set at the Firebird promises to be a little less staid.
