Pennsylvania writer Dennis Tafoya's first book, Dope Thief, was described as "If In Cold Blood was set in a meth lab and written by F. Scott Fitzgerald," which sums up his unique talent for nailing character, grim reality and the lure of a life very different from your own. Tafoya's new novel, The Wolves of Fairmount Park, unravels the mystery of what two middle-class teenagers were doing in front of a Philadelphia drug house when they were shot in a drive-by, and what this act of violence means in the larger scheme of a city's drug war. Tafoya reads from Wolves at 8 p.m. this evening at the new (!) installment of Noir at the Bar at the Delmar Lounge (6235 Delmar Boulevard; 314-725-6565), with Derek Nikitas (The Long Division) joining him for immoral support. Admission is free, books will be for sale through Subterranean Books and bring money for drinks — you're gonna want to drink.
