Contemporary country music wouldn't exist without the Eagles (or Lynyrd Skynyrd), so the pairing of the Dixie Chicks and the Richest Rock Band in California makes aesthetic as well as demographic sense. As consumer culture goes, the boomers who bliss out to "Tequila Sunrise" and "Hotel California" don't overlap much with country cougars and their teenage daughters, but maybe the former will get lucky or arrested. Mostly, everyone will chillax. Long forgotten are the days of Dixie Chick CD smashing in Wal-Mart parking lots — and long forgiven is the corporate rock chimera that the Eagles all but invented. The band gave birth to punk rock, the Chicks pissed off Clear Channel and their Republican base, and so even rockers should show some respect. This is a lazy, nostalgic summer night dream bill.
