Classic Fun

All right, that was one doozy of a weekend! You need some clean-living to right your beer-drinking wrongs and in a hurry. Thank goodness for the Compton Heights Concert Band! This group provides wholesome, wholly enjoyable nights out — that is, out of your house and out of doors. The band's summer concert season kicks off with performances on Sunday and Monday (July 4 and 5) at Francis Park (Eichelberger Street and Donovan Avenue) and Tower Grove Park (4256 Magnolia Avenue), respectively. Soprano Beverly Stewart-Anderson lends her pipes to the evenings' patriotic tunes, and we're certain she'll shine — Stewart-Anderson has performed with the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra and for presidents of our country. Sounds like some good, honest fun to us! Plus, these concerts end with Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture accompanied by the firing of cannons! Boom! The Compton Heights Concert Band's weekly shows begin at 7:30 p.m. and are free; visit www.chband.org to learn more.
Sun., July 4; Mon., July 5, 2010
