Storm the Bastille
Halloween is one lucky holiday. Almost yearly it delivers rainy, chilly weather, and yet we continue to love it, drink with it and shower it with fabulous costumes. But it needn't be our only day of whimsical dress! Let loose and pretend you're someone else at Maplewood's Let Them Eat Art street festival — and go ahead and enter that someone else in the "Don't Dream It...Be It!" costume contest. Ensembles fitting into the Bastille Day theme of the fest will get special notice from the celebrity judges, who include RFT's own Chad Garrison — ooh la la, indeed! — and awards will be given out in the categories of "Best Stylist — Hair and Makeup," "Best in the Spirit of Let Them Eat Art" and "People's Choice." To enter into the fray, arrive at the Black Cat Theatre (2810 Sutton Boulevard) no later than 6:45 p.m. to register ($10). The rest of the artsy Let Them Eat Art party happens up and down Maplewood's streets from 6 to 11 p.m. Expect to see costumed folks (such as yourself), live art and music, face-painting, dream interpreters, belly-dancing and even a fire-shooting ice cream truck, and be sure to duck into places such as the Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue) and Maya Café (2726 Sutton Boulevard) for French-style eats and drinks.
