When Vito Met Theda

Theda Blau is a B-movie actress now consigned to the peculiar circle of hell that is auditioning for TV commercials in New York. What she really wants to do is write serious drama, like the great Russian authors. After delivering a particularly unhinged audition for Vito Pignoli, your standard tough-talking ad director, the two share a cab back to her place — Vito fancies himself something of a ladies' man, and he sees an easy mark in lonely but upbeat Theda, who wants him to read her script. What follows is a descent into madness, as Theda and Vito argue and bicker and gradually come to realize that you can't always get what you want from life — but you can sometimes get what you need. Max and Louie Productions presents It Had to Be You, a zany comedy from Broadway's old school, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday (July 14 through August 1) in the Jewish Community Center's Wool Studio Theater (2 Millstone Campus Drive, Creve Coeur; 800-838-3006 or www.maxandlouie.com). Tickets are $20 to $25.
Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: July 14. Continues through Aug. 1, 2010
