For nearly twenty years cellist/vocalist Melora Creager has led Rasputina. The gothy chamber-rock trio possesses Victorian style and macabre humor, making it the kind of band you might envision Edward Gorey listening to during one of his drawing jags. With its always-changing membership, nearly as many people have been in Rasputina as have been in Smashing Pumpkins (that's a lot!). As the Kansas-bred Creager recently noted, however, "I am really tired of talking about the numerous lineup changes. It's no mystery. Rasputina is not a full-time job with benefits. People can only stay so long." With her current compadres — cellist Daniel DeJesus and drummer Julie Griner — Creager is touring behind the new Sister Kinderhook, a musical examination of Colonial America, nineteenth-century rent wars, Emily Dickinson and prehistoric giants.
