Even from his quiet final resting spot, which is tucked away in the eastern area of the Missouri Botanical Garden (4344 Shaw Boulevard; 314-577-5100 or www.mobot.org), Henry Shaw still likes to throw down, if only once a year. The founder of the garden celebrates his 210th birthday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, and in order for you to enjoy the milestone with him more easily, the garden proper and the Children's Garden within offer free admission — what a deal! In addition to strolling around and gazing about at the many horticultural enchantments on the grounds, you can experience some old-fashioned fun, such as puppet performances by Bob Kramer's Marionnettes (at 11 a.m., 12:30 and 2 p.m.), stilt walkers, jugglers, Victorian-era costumed actors, silhouette-portrait-makers, tours of the Tower Grove House (Shaw's country domicile) and much more. And don't be surprised if you see Shaw himself walking the garden — it is his party after all!
