Dashboard Confessional

7 p.m. Wednesday, July 28. Six Flags St. Louis, 4900 Six Flags Road, Eureka.

If accidentally transported via hot-tub time machine to the year 2000, Chris Carrabba circa 2010 probably wouldn' t even recognize himself. A decade ago, the then-frontman of Christian emo up-and-comers Further Seems Forever entered a friend's bedroom studio for a few days and exited with The Swiss Army Romance. He released the ten-track acoustic disc, which was loaded with powerful songs about heartbreak and loss, under the moniker Dashboard Confessional. Since then, Carrabba formed a full band (2001's The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most), embraced electric guitars (2003's A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar) and became so entrenched with the mainstream that he even recorded a duet with a Counting Crow (2006's Dusk and Summer). Dashboard's most recent album, last year's so-so Alter the Ending, found Carrabba losing his way, and the band's big headlining tour in support of Ending was canceled owing to an undisclosed family emergency. Hopefully, he can turn things around this year.
