Chekhov Yourself

San Antonio's Actors Express is puttin' on a show! And not just any show, but Chekhov's Three Sisters, with well-known TV star Holly playing Masha. The other two sisters are portrayed by Lisabeth (lately a third grade teacher) and Casey, a Broadway veteran who has closed hundreds of shows without ever being paid. But this show doesn't want to be put on; the critics are savage and extremely vocal, the director is pompous, the producer is in over his head, and there are funding problems that may or may not be smoothed over through commercial considerations paid for by big tobacco. Jane Martin's Anton in Show Business gleefully attacks everything that goes on backstage and doesn't skimp on skewering the folks who love center stage, either. St. Louis Shakespeare gives you Anton in Show Business at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday (August 6 through 15) with a 7:30 p.m. show on Thursday, August 12. Performances take place at the Grandel Theatre (3610 Grandel Square; 314-361-5664 or www.stlshakespeare.org). Tickets are $15 to $25.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: Aug. 6. Continues through Aug. 15, 2010
