Sock it to Me

As if being an unknown painter isn't enough of a problem for young Arthur, he's struggling to make it in Manhattan. Good times loom on the horizon, though; Arthur's set to marry Lucille, a fun-loving, good-looking and wealthy socialite from Texas. But even this blessed union is beset by difficulties. Arthur's been keeping his sexual fetish a secret from Lucille, because it involves his father's argyle socks — he's unable to perform sexually without them. His psychiatrist, fed up with his inability to help Arthur over his sock hump, has stolen the footwear in a bid to break Arthur's dependency. With the wedding night fast approaching, what's a poor, sock-fondling artist desperate to consummate his marriage supposed to do? John Patrick Shanley's comedy Psychopathia Sexualis demonstrates that sometimes certain articles of clothing really do make the man. Citilites Theatre presents Psychopathia Sexualis at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday (August 5 through 22) at the Kranzberg Arts Center (501 North Grand Boulevard; 314-773-1879 or www.citilitestheatre.com). Tickets are $15 to $20.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: Aug. 5. Continues through Aug. 22, 2010
