True Song Birds

Birds fill our hearts and lives with song, and we should thank them for that — even when their early-morning chirps seem to be admonishing us for returning home late after a night out. Of course, it's also important to note that our beaked buddies perform additional essential functions for which they deserve credit. Some help with pest control, others serve on nature's cleanup crew, and all of our neighborly nesters are an integral part of the food chain and the cycle of life. To show birds the respect they've earned and to focus more closely on their contributions to our lives, head out to the World Bird Sanctuary (125 Bald Eagle Ridge Road, Valley Park; 636-861-3225 or www.worldbirdsanctuary.org) for the final Birds in Concert event of the season. During this musical evening, which begins at 7 p.m., the Raptor Project (a human group) performs family- and eco-friendly songs, while WBS birds fly overhead. Other local bands get in on the avian-celebrating, musical good times, and everyone leaves with a greater appreciation for the natural world around them. Admission to the Birds in Concert event is free (as a bird now).
