Festival of Creations: St. Louis gets its own music festival in Forest Park

Multiday music festivals have been popular attractions for years in Europe and the UK. However, they were a novelty in America — at least until Coachella, Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza stormed the concert scene and proved that musical immersion could work in the States. St. Louisans are used to leaving the city to experience such an event — until this year: Enter LouFest, a two-day event in Forest Park. The inaugural festival booked a mix of established musicians (Alejandro Escovedo, Built to Spill, Jeff Tweedy, Lucero), up-and-comers (Airborne Toxic Event, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Titus Andronicus, stephaniesid) and indie darlings (She & Him, Fruit Bats, Broken Social Scene). An emphasis on local acts with national reach (Bottle Rockets, So Many Dynamos and Gentleman Auction House) and hometown heroes (Adam Reichmann, Kim Massie, Magnolia Summer) round out the bill. It's almost too good to be true, having a cool, high-quality festival right in our back yard. But believe it — and read on for interviews with Tweedy, Escovedo, She & Him's M. Ward and Broken Social Scene's Justin Peroff, and for an overview of what LouFest attendees can expect.
