The countdown has begun! Tuesday, October 12, marks the launch of the third annual SciFest, a jam-packed, six-day excursion all the way out to the cutting edge of science and technology. Hosted by the Saint Louis Science Center (5050 Oakland Avenue), SciFest presents a cavalcade of interactive experiments and captivating presentations, exploring everything from the science of Avatarto the back-yard battles of our own honeybees. The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra even gets in on the science act, when the Strings of Arda perform "Beethoven and Barometers: Celebrating Weather as Inspiration for the Arts" at 7 p.m. Tuesday beneath the James S. McDonnell Planetarium ($5 to $10). For a detailed program of SciFest events and ticket information, visit www.scifeststl.org.
