Nate Ruess' songs imply that he's been dumped a zillion times. The hyperarticulate lead singer-songwriter of fun. — a trio also featuring Andrew Dost of Anathallo and Jack Antonoff of Steel Train, a band who's opening the show — details the minutiae of crushes, heartache and self-doubt in theatrical streams of consciousness. The band's 2009 debut, Aim and Ignite, is full of songs such as "At Least I'm Not As Sad (As I Used To Be)," which pair neurotic, self-deprecating lyrics with twinkly, carnivalesque pop elements. A digital edition of the album includes the music video for bouncy single "Walking the Dog," which features Ruess' cartoonish good looks and elastic voice at their emo-in-Technicolor best.
