Blonde Redhead hasn't been to St. Louis since 2000, when it opened for Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters. (Wrap your heads around that bill.) In the ensuing decade, the trio's evolved from a cult noise-stung act into a full-speed-ahead dreampop band akin to Asobi Seksu and School of Seven Bells. The new Penny Sparkle is a gauzier, amorphous version of the band's popular 2007 release, 23 — the equivalent of spacing out in class while the teacher drones on. Be sure to show up early for opener Pantha du Prince. On this year's superlative, mostly instrumental Black Noise, the German producer/DJ crafts minimalist electro ice sculptures with tiny beats and even finer programming effects. Subtlety is Noise's strength: Percussion tinkles like glass breaking, perforated sounds conjure an efficient factory, and the danceable highlight "Stick to My Side" features rhythmic, lilting vocals from Animal Collective's Panda Bear.
