Two Poets, No Waiting

After the faux-terror and role play of the Halloween season, you're no doubt looking for something to clear out the cobwebs, so to speak. An evening of naturalist/modernist poetry might be just the thing. Observable Readings presents a dual reading by Merrill D. Gilfillan and John Matthiastonight at 8 p.m. at the Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue, Maplewood; www.stlouispoetrycenter.org). Gilfillan is the naturalist poet, one whose works have often drawn inspiration from the Great Plains; Matthias is the modernist, whose poems have illuminated the frailty of life in eras as disparate as the Middle Ages, the war in Bosnia and the day John Kennedy died. Admission is free.
