Feel the Fire
When you think of University City, you no doubt think of all the amenities and cultural assets a cosmopolitan, urban area can purvey. You probably do not think of prairies and wetlands. But the Green Center (8025 Blackberry Avenue, University City; 314-725-8314 or www.thegreencenter.org), twelve years old now, boasts both a half-acre prairie and a half-acre Missouri wetland: green tentacles braiding about the heart of the distinctly urban entity that is U. City. The Green Center also offers lots of fun and educational programs and events — such as the Fall Fire Festival, today from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The family-friendly fest will feature a bonfire, delicious and seasonally appropriate foods like chili and soups, along with bread supplied by area bakeries, plus entertainment from belly dancers, storytellers and jugglers. Local beers and wines will be available, too. Presale tickets for adults are $10 ($15 at the door); children's tickets are $5.
