Get In on the Act

The adage "they don't make 'em like they used to" is often a sore spot for young folk, but there are instances when it rings of truth. There were few people as funny as Carol Burnett on television in the '70s, and there are fewer still today. With her combination of charm, acting chops and cunning wit, she transformed herself into characters both ludicrous and loveable on The Carol Burnett Show. Burnett made the audience feel right at home and part of the creative process by holding a question-and-answer segment with spectators before the taping of each show. Laughter and Reflection: An Evening With Carol Burnett places her on stage at the Fabulous Fox Theatre (527 North Grand Boulevard; 314-534-1678 or www.fabulousfox.com) not as Starlett or Nora Desmond, but as herself at the disposal of the audience once more. The show begins at 8 p.m. and tickets cost $45 to $75.
